Things To Do Before Moving Into Your New Home

Have you had enough living in that little apartment all these years? Well congratulations on getting your own home. After the long and tiring process of searching for the perfect home that fits your budget and requirements, you of course can’t wait to move in. However, there are a few important things you need to do before you move in. Here they are.

  • Change the locks
Who knows how many people have the key to your house; the real estate agents, brokers, previous owners and whoever. So, as soon as you sign the deal and get the keys to your house, buy and install some new locks on all exterior doors or get a locksmith so that you could have peace of mind that your home is safe. The last thing you need is to go through burglary even before you move into your new home.
    • Organize your cupboards
You can’t keep your custom cardboard boxes lying around for long after the move. So, organize all your cabinets, closets and cupboards; add an extra shelf, place coat hooks etc. so that when you come in, you simply have to place your stuff in the respective places. Plan-out a place for each and every item, from winter clothes to daily-use items.
      • Clean it up
Giving your new home a good home before you move in would be refreshing as there could be nothing worse than moving in and unpacking your moving boxes Dandenong to a dirty old home. Your previous owners probably cleaned it and left, however it is better to do it yourself so that you know every nook and cranny is checked. You could hire a cleaning service to do it for you if you don’t have time and don’t mind spending a few bucks. However if not, you could do it by yourself. Set up a separate room with the supplies you need; vacuum cleaners, buckets, mops, brooms, cleaning liquid etc. Then, take on each room at a time. Do the kitchen and bathrooms first as those needs to be the cleanest of all.
        • Paint all walls and ceilings
A good coat of paint could make your home look new. Hire a professional so that he could mend all cracks, holes or any other defects on the walls and ceiling and paint them. Painting takes a lot of effort and time, not forgetting the quality and finesse of work. So leave it to someone who knows the job. It would be wise to paint all walls one neutral color such as white or cream for now, so that later on you could relax and think of interior design ideas.
